Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs he had difficulty finding his passport.
"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.
Mr Whiting admitted he had been to France before.
"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."
The Englishman said,"Last time I was here I did not have to show it."
"Impossible. Every English person must show his passport on arrival in France."
The English senior then explained,"Well, when I came ashore on Gold Beach on D Day in June 1944 to liberate this country, I could not find a single Frenchman to show my passport to."

Genius and more than a little poignant. I love it.
