Saturday Satire : Woman Power - not to be underestimated

One night, President Obama and his wife Michelle decided to do something out of routine and go for a casual dinner at a restaurant that wasn't too luxurious.

When they were seated, the owner of the restaurant asked the president's Secret Service if he could speak to the First Lady in private.

They obliged and Michelle had a short conversation with the owner.

Following their conversation President Obama asked Michelle why the owner was so interested in speaking to her.

Michelle said that when she was a teenager the owner was madly in love with her.

President Obama then said, "So, if you had married him, you would now be the owner of this lovely restaurant."

To which Michelle replied, "No, if I had married him he would now be President!"

Time

Time is for the living not for the dead
Getting up in the morning and going to bed
For going to work and coming home too
Time is for me Time is for you
Time is abundant We all get our share
Time is so precious Even for those that don't care
Time is for living That's why we are put on this earth
And, when we stop breathing Then we know it is death

Ten Commandments

The Ten Commandments display was recently removed from the Alabama Supreme Court building. There was a good reason for the move. You can't post

Thou Shalt Not Steal,
Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,
and Thou Shall Not Lie

in a building full of lawyers and politicians without creating a hostile work environment

10 Reasons not to Jog

1. My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 now & we don't know where the heck she is.

2. The only reason I would take up jogging is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

3. I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 quid. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to show up.

4. I have to exercise in the morning before my brain figures out what I'm doing.

5. I don't exercise at all. If God meant us to touch our toes, he would have put them further up our body.

6. I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

7. I have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them.

8. The advantage of exercising every day is that you die healthier.

9. If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

10. I don't jog. It makes the ice jump right out of my glass.

Thoughts

She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go.
She let go of the fear. She let go of the judgments.
She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head.
She let go of the committee of indecision within her.
She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons. Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go.
She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a book on how to let go.
She didn’t search the scriptures. She just let go. She let go of all of the memories that held her back.
She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward. She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right.
She didn’t promise to let go. She didn’t journal about it. She didn’t write the projected date in her Day-Timer. She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper. She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope. She just let go.
She didn’t analyze whether she should let go. She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter. She didn’t do a five-step Spiritual Mind Treatment. She didn’t call the prayer line. She didn’t utter one word. She just let go.
No one was around when it happened. There was no applause or congratulations. No one thanked her or praised her. No one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go.
There was no effort .There was no struggle. It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad.It was what it was, and it is just that.
In the space of letting go,She let it be. A small smile came over her face. A light breeze blew through her.
And the sun and the moon shone forevermore.

Sunday Sunshine - where was it?

The sun didn't shine for Sage on Sunday.

We awoke to grey skies, with a hint of blue.. but as we walked up Carn Marth with the Pond Boys, you could see the mist coming in to cover Carn Brae and it was heading in our direction. It was the first time that the OH had come with us to the Pond, and it was fun showing him our preferred route not to mention the excitement the Pond Boys showed when they caught sight of the water.

I did take the camera, but was too busy throwing balls for the Pond Boys + Roxy a Mix of black lab and weimeraner into the pond. When Murphy got tired, having sunk lower in the water, we headed back to the small quarry and the bog snorkelling part of the expedition. You can let the Pond Boys off to explore the lower part, while we enjoyed a cup of coffee and hot chocolate in the upper part. By now the mist had surrounded us, and although we were out of the breeze it was not warm. Jasper has some legs on him, and while they played chase, it was more of Murphy lying in wait for Jasper to show himself.

15 mins of this and the boys were bushed, so we headed home and past the horse event at the top of Carn Marth. Apparently there is a third quarry, known as the amphitheatre and I hope to visit it with the Pond Boys soon as they have regular events up there with plays and such like. Can but hope for warm weather and this time will have camera in hand.

Saturday Satire : Visiting France

Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs he had difficulty finding his passport.

"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.

Mr Whiting admitted he had been to France before.

"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."

The Englishman said,"Last time I was here I did not have to show it."

"Impossible. Every English person must show his passport on arrival in France."

The English senior then explained,"Well, when I came ashore on Gold Beach on D Day in June 1944 to liberate this country, I could not find a single Frenchman to show my passport to."

One of my days and delights

I have pleasure each day in my work, as my work takes me to different places. Yesterday was one such day.

I spent a couple of hours in Truro, the sun shone as I wrote up a couple of portfolios while sipping a hot chocolate.

Later that morning I had to drive to Mylor Bridge, a road which is bendy and twisty, but also sunny and shady in parts.. but the best part of going there is that there is a roadside stall with an honesty box and since March I have been visiting there and collecting some flowers. First there was daffodils, and later I have had cornflowers and carnations.. there were some sweet peas yesterday but my heart was one by the very dark purple carnations and some white ones for contrast.

I also paid up for some runner beans (mine aren't quite ready yet), some home grown potatoes and I was tempted by a lettuce. Sadly my way won't be wandering down that way again so I will be looking for a new roadside stall.

My last appointment was to Falmouth, it coincides with the end of school so not one of my favourites but on route I took a different path and followed a road (well more of a track really with tall grass up the middle) back to Tre Agan and arrived home some 9 hours after leaving it. A welcome drink and even warmer welcome from the two black boys made my day all the more special especially when my tea was cooked for me which was a rare but much appreciated by me and allowed me to have a refreshing shower before relaxing at the end of my day.

Thoughts

~ Someone once said - "There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don't. Life is too short to be… anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living." ~

Cool July Days

Seems like Summer has mysteriously disappeared into the ether.. even down here at the Edge of the World it is cool, grey and liquid substances that drop ceaselessly from the darkened skies.

I don't mind being cold and damp, but everything is dulled by the lack of sunshine and warmth. It seems dismal and winterlike but it is only the middle of July. We should be having long sunny days, with glorious sunsets and morning dew.

I want to go out and explore, but costs of fuel make that somewhat prohibitive and the weather does not make me inclined to do much walking as any views are blighted by a mistiness that hides the beauty that is Cornwall.

Here's to hoping that the weather and my mood improves.

The Weekend that Was a big Washout

Torrential downpours, winds, gales, and cold winds.. are we in July or November?

Saturday was a day of two halves, the morning with lashings of rain and high winds... with the dogs walked early enough a cooked brunch was in order and although their was no bacon the silicon egg shaped device worked perfectly producing heart shaped eggs which although took longer to cook were pretty on the plate.

An early afternoon film, saw me do the ironing as I had a whole pile meanwhile the sun decided to show its presence and when it did come out it was warm.. with the final lot of washing out on the line taking its chances while I popped out to Tesco to stock up the cupboards and to get a pizza for tea. I enjoy a pizza but have sometimes found them to be a bit stodgy but thanks to Goodfella's thin bread type pizza it was a real treat to enjoy.

Sunday morning with grey skies and rain overnight it was the perfect (not) day to enjoy watching a charity football tournament which the OH was refereeing.. Afterwards I wished I had just stayed home in the warm and the dry, but didn't want to leave him with no food...I even did some work that was just how bored I was with the whole thing. It was a relief to go home at 5.30 and relax in the warm. I had organised a quiche for tea thinking it was going to be warm... we still had it but not with salad and garlic bread but with potatoes and beans instead along with some baked corn.

Last game now until the new season starts, o lucky me!
